Amazon MP3 はすべてのアルバムを １曲$.99、アルバム単位では $8.99-9.99 から、256kbps の MP3 DRM なしで販売している。Windows/Mac/Linux (Ununtu etc.) のダウンロードソフトウェアがあって、ダウンロード後 iTunes に自動登録、すべての曲にアートワーク情報がついている。だから Mac で iTunes を使っているからという理由で iTunes Store を使わなくてはいけない理由にはならない。

時期は公表されていないが、2008年中に米国以外の世界市場でMP3による楽曲販売を開始する。日本にもMP3販売の波が押し寄せるか？

ポール・マッカートニー、宇多田ヒカルの楽曲が、256kbps、DRMフリーAAC「iTunes Plus」で販売開始された。中略---
日本ではiTunes Plusの1曲当たりの価格は200円、270円のいずれか。米国では、DRM付き楽曲は99セントだが、iTunes Plus楽曲は1ドル29セントとなっている。
iTunesでiTunes Plusのコーナーにアクセスすると、自分が購入したDRM付き楽曲をDRMフリーにアップグレードするために必要な価格が表示される。アップグレード価格は、一括の場合のみ適用される。個別にアップグレードする場合には別途購入することになる。
